A round daybed sits under a geodesic dome of clear panels, on a wooden deck at MISSING, out in the Texas Hill Country 45 minutes northwest of Austin. We call it the Hype dome, and it is open now for guests staying with us. The darkest evenings ahead are October 6 to 12.
A low curved wall of stacked limestone runs along one side of the deck, with a string of warm lights running low along the edge of the deck. There is a knit throw and a lantern.
This week the moon is full and up all night, so the Milky Way will not show. From October 6 the moon does not rise until after 4 am. The Draconid meteor shower peaks on the evening of October 8.
October 9 and 10 are the new moon weekend, with almost ten hours of moonless sky each night. On those two nights it is fully dark by about 8:30 pm, and the core of the Milky Way stays above the tree line until about 9:45 pm.
