We slowly came back to reality after realizing we were the owners of 100 acres of land!
Our first order of business was bushwhacking through the property! As we pushed our way through the trees, we found some birdhouses and were curious what types of birds used them…
About that time, we heard a little whistle. Later we found out they were for Golden Cheek Warblers. They are the cutest little birds, with bright yellow cheeks. We heard a little whistle and Stephen got them to sing back to him :)
We were over the moon about the place and found everything absolutely magical. As we continued to explore, we couldn’t stop throwing ideas into the universe, some were amazing and some would just stay on paper :)
At the beginning of the project, the only means of transportation around the ranch were a two-wheel drive truck (luckily was a rental) and Stephen’s Triumph Thruxton Motorcycle, which is not exactly an off-road machine. After getting stuck a few times in the truck, and a couple of spills on the motorcycle we realized we needed a real off-road machine. Getting the ATV was a BIG day and allowed us to find even more enchanting areas throughout the property! One of my favorites is still a little tiny cactus growing out of a tree trunk :)
Now that we had proper transportation, we decided that maybe it was time to get a “house”. Knowing it would take some time to get a proper house built, I took to Craigslist to see what our options would be…
Flying over ranch when I found the listing Moving boulders with the dozer Creating 30 foot bonfires regularly
The first part of the project took one year, 16 hour days of working to the bone, with a tight knit crew of six amazing, creative and hard-working people you'll find.
Bringing Oli home to the Airstream had its challenges, so luckily our in-laws were kind enough to let us share their house until… the first dome was complete! We lived with Oli in our Morii dome for about 6 weeks and created some of my favorite memories during that time.
